The engine and powertrain section captures everything involved in the propulsion of a conventionally powered internal combustion vehicle from engine block and cylinders, through to transmission, differential, gearbox and exhaust. It also includes the support systems including fuels, additives, lubricants and cooling systems. The section also covers the power generation systems for electric vehicles and fuel cell powered vehicles, including electric motors, fuel cell systems and transmissions but not the energy storage systems such as electric vehicle batteries.
